I have had a rough morning already, my darn car wouldnt start in time to move it before the darn street sweeper came! We finally got it moved and I was fuming about it outside when I just glanced at the huge aquarium I have 6 or so ooths in.

I saw a baby and squeaked so loud my mom came running thinking something was wrong! lol.

So I just had to report that I finally have some nymphs again!

And I was starting to feel disheartened about it all thinking they weren't gonna hatch!

Aaahh im off to start counting babies!!

YAY!!!

We discussed her specific species name for a while, now I cant remember tho lol. Probably Oratoria or a Californica.

More hatched this morning, so far it's a small batch. 21 the 1st day, 10 or 11 so far the 2nd.

Makes me glad I didnt remove that ooth already!

Unless you see an orange dot under the abdomen of the female, its not oratoria. It doesn't look like it anyway (wings are too long)

Ya, I think the only Oratoria I had last year was a male. But with so many mantids last season it was easy to get a bit mixed up in my memory. I tell ya i'm getting old these days, lol.

S. carolina isn't found in CA as far as I'm aware of. The bright green color and white spot on the wing is characteristic of the two species I mentioned.

It's not S. carolina, so that's crossed off the list as well. Can you describe the nymphs? lol@I'm getting old.

Macro, thats not a perfume bottle it's a mister. I got it at Osh or Walmart a few years back to mist a plant and found out it worked great for my mantids.

And it was prettier than the normal clear spray bottles. lol, even tho I raise freaky bugs unlike most women I still like pretty things.

I'll get up a pic of the hatchlings if I can get my camera to focus on one of em, darn things are SO teeny tiny and fast at this age Im amazed I dont loose more than I do.

Another ooth hatched today!! Oh man Spring is here indeed!

This ooth was from my favorite girl last year, my darn cat had gotten to her cage and damaged her so we'd had to put her down much sooner than normal.

I am SO glad these babies hatched! And I'm so glad I got some fruit flies yesterday!
