Hatching Tenodera Ootheca - Caught on Video

Our first chinese ootheca - we were bringing it to grandma's to show it off, didn't expect to bring the nymphs too! the background winnie the pooh was unintentional, but a nice effect "up/down - touch the ground"

did they all hatch out ok? The ooths seem a little too close to the bottom. The nymphs should be given more room to drop. Good luck with the nymphs.

Nice! But you have them almost too close to the floor, they need to harden by hanging before running around on the ground.

angel/patrick - this was on 1 april. its the angle. all hatched, hardened and lived (with the exception of about 2-3 individuals) until i released at L2/L3. there were close to 100 from that ooth.

All's well that ends well, but why take the risk? Maybe you might think about it the next time.

patrick, it was the angle of the camera. its higher than it looks. they hung for awhile before dropping. and you are right, no need to take the risk.

I'd put them a bit higher and angle it more where the opening to the ooth faces the ground more. That second part isn't a huge deal since you often find them in the wild straight up and down.

thanks for all of the nice comments - it was such a nice surprise to see the hatching on our first ooth. those nympths are now adults.
