Have a question about plant growing substances...

I have Katydids (phasmids) and I am growing blackberry plants indoors.

Would Organic Miracle grow harm my katydids?

I plan on using a rooting hormone to multiply my blackberry supply... would this being used in the plants, harm my katydids?

any input? thanks!

Using it on your plant than the plant being used on your katydids would be fine. Katydids coming in contact with the potting soil could kill them. The potting soil has chemicals and everything else in it, the plant will be fine though for the katydids. Millions of gardeners use Miracle Gro (I do) potting soil or fertilizer and bugs still eat the plants.

If worried about the soil, put some mulch, like wood shavings on top of it or spagmun moss.

organic miracle grow should only have wood chips in it for the fertilizer if I remember correctly.

I do not see the harm in that.

Thanks all. I am just really concerned because these special Katydids are not cheap by any means.

I was told by a couple very experienced phasmid keepers that miracle grow is a NO NO lol... Apparently chemicals remain in the plants and the residue can really hurt them...

They don't know about organic mircale grow, so I am testing it out on cheap insects like crickets lol.

Rooting hormone seems OK since I got some from double Dz and he sold me the bramble specifically for my phasmid katydids.. so.. let's see...

I'll keep those who are interested updated so you might get to benefit from my experience in failure or success lol.

I'm not a gardener, but it is my understanding that one of the differences between organic and regular Miracle Gro is that the organic version contains no insecticides. Was that what you were asking? If you buy the stuff at a nursery, instead of Walmart's garden shop, say, you may pay a little more, but the person who sells it should know what he is talking about.

I have been using "Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food" from Miracle-gro for several months now. I apply it to the soil of potted roses. The roses are then put in the cage, (pot, soil, and plant). I have not had any trouble caused to my Indian sticks or Spectres.
