can you use a heat mat to incubate ooths? ive heard that higher tempature can increase the hatch rate :)
I'd stay away from heat pads; you might fry the eggs. To quote Katt from another thread:

"Actually, the easiest and safest way to incubate them is to just keep them at room temp. and mist a few times a week."

The only exception to this rule would be ooths of some desert and tropical species that live at about 30C (~85F) and then you can use a floodlight or heat lamp, but monitor the temperature carefully, and make sure that they don't dry out.

room tempature in my house is 18-22C though..

thats what im worried about.

im using a heater for my room where the mantids are to raise the tempature abit.

i can't keep it on 24/7 though.

Yeah, that's kind of chilly! If you don't want to move to Singapore or Yuma, I'd say use a light bulb. It will use less electricity than a heat pad, I would imagine. Do monitor the heat and humidity, though, until you get used to your setup. Good luck!

could i just use a normal lamp?

and yeah i will do. i ordered a humity/tempature control thing off ebay :)

its coming from china though so might take awhile.

1p it cost me!

(not including postage) haha :p

Like Phil said... just watch that you don't cook or dry them out. Even if the temps aren't extremely high, constant heat on them will dry them out. You'll need to mist them much more than normally recommended in average conditions. I keep some of my incubaton cups, not under, but near my heat lamp... and I usually mist them about every day. The constant warmth is very drying. Just make sure to let them dry out thoroughly between mistings to avoid a mold problem.
