Heating and Lighting

Hi All,

I have just got a Sphodromantis 'Chamaeleon Village' adult male mantid. I have him in a vivarium with a mesh top. Unfortunately my flat is north facing, so we do not get much natural light, do I need to provide light for him, other than the window lighting? Also, our flat is pretty warm, is he ok at room temperature or does he need a heat source?

Sphodromantis 'Chamaeleon Village'? I've never heard that one before. Is it "new"?

It shoulld do ok with your room heat, and if evenings are starting to dim with new season, provide a little lite till night time.

I got him at an entomology fair in London at the weekend. Someone else said he was also known as 'purple flash'?. Im not sure is he is 'new' or I have been told another name?

Any photos showing the purple flash. I've got blue flash, but have never seen a purple.

I can't actually see a purple flash. As I say, I was sold him as a Chamaeleon Village and someone on here said he was a purple flash.. although I cant see any evidence of this..?? (I am new to mantids so maybe I am looking in the wrong place?

You can see the blue "flash" here. Too much flash from camera, but you can see it on the inside of the arms.
