Anyone have any Tips Tricks Advice on breeding M. Binotata / Pinstripes

This is getting insane

I honestly can't remember ever having so much trouble getting any pair to hook up

They both matured a few days apart

Going on a month since the male matured

&

So far ever attempt has been a total failure

The male shows absolutely NO interest in the female what so ever

He'd rather sit there & clean his feet then get some

Any Advice Like

Heating or Cooling them

Uping or Lowering humidity

Day / Night

Anything ???

Other than setting up a larger container & tossing them in together I'm at a lose

'Cause the female is SWOLLEN & looks like she's going to start laying any day now

Really don't like to do that cause if I don't witness it

I hate not knowing for sure / Sitting around (hoping) waiting to find out if an ooth is good or not

Any Advice Would Be GREATLY APPRECIATED

Thanx

Eric

You might want to detox him from her pheremones for a few days if he is acting completely uninterested. Set him up in a cage at the opposite end of the house for a couple days. Then I would suggest waiting till night and placing them in a cage together. These boys get distracted easy and are slow/super cautious about making a move. If you want to try and catch them in the act, pick a night you know you will be up super late and let them have at it while you glance over at the cage occasionally. The girls tend to be super chill so cannibilzation shouldn't be too great of a concern. Oh, it might be good to also fast the boy a couple days if he is a hearty eater. My one male was such a piggy he had a hard time making a connection with his pudgy rear.

I am pretty sure I remember seeing a topic with the exact same issue for this species. I really think a lot has to do with the boys getting distracted if there are people/stuff going on too close. Since I keep mantises as pets I often breed my mantises outside of cages where I can easy intervene if things go south. It usually only takes 5-10minutes to get most connected and the riskiest part over. When I tried to breed this species out of cage though the boys had the attention span of gnats. Inside the cage they instantly got interested but it still often took a good half hour to hour for them to slowly slink up the ladies.

I used the 12" net cubes for this species. I have one plant in it with lots of leaves that I get the boys seated on. I find it effective to then put the girls on the screen in the direction the males are facing, and lightly prode the girls a bit to get them to walk forward so the boys key in and recognize they are there.

Don't Loose Your Head!!!

Oops To Late...

While a few more attempts at pairing with no luck

So I decided to set them up together in a small KritterKeeper with a bunch of plants & just leave them be

'Cause she had already laid 1 ooth & was fattening up again

Have been checking in on them over the last 3 or 4 days & didn't see them doing anything

They were usually hanging out in different parts of the tank

Till This Afternoon

When I found her enjoying his head for lunch

Hopefully he got the job done???

Guess I'll have to wait & see if the next ooth hatches or not before I know if he did or not

Will keep things updated
