Hello everyone,
I was around here for a while last summer. My daughter (Sunhorse) introduced herself yesterday. Last year we hatched an ooth and managed to get a few mantids through several weeks. This year... we would like to keep learning so that we can maximize the health of the mantids. She would like to breed a pair! That would be cool... my big goal is to keep a few alive through adulthood! My other daughter would like to have a tarantula. That would be fine with me! A bit pricier than tenodera sinensis though. That's what I call "something to look forward to!"
I felt very welcome here last year and was most impressed with the level of support and interaction on this forum! I have lots of questions, but nothing urgent... so I will continue to read here first and see what I can learn.
The mantids that survived the hatch are looking good, happily munching fruit flies. My best estimate is about 40-50. (Not as many as last year when we had the ootheca suspended and misted.) My error! For some reason, I thought they would remain in waiting for a few weeks till we warmed and misted. My plan was to read and learn and prep the environment ... and THEN suspend and warm and mist. oops! I love watching the nymphs... I could spend hours staring at them... oh... yeah... that is why this intro has taken me so long to write. I started the post after supper and now it is 2 in the morning.
Good-night!
