Just signed up to get information about mantids before making the decision about whether or not to actually get one and keep it. I'm starting in dart frogs and will be culturing hydei fruit flies, isopods, and springtail for them and was wondering if that would be a suitable diet for a mantid or if I would have to use crickets and flies.

If it's crickets and regular flies then I'm going to have to think about it for a bit longer...I'm going to be raising enough bugs as it is

Thank you everyone. If I did get one it would be going into my future orchid terrarium that I'm planning for my desk. I suspect I'll get one of the 12x12x18 exo-terra's and set it up in a few months.

Welcome. Mantids in general start out with fruit flies but at some point you will have to transition to house/bluebottle flies and maybe even something like crickets or roaches depending on the species.
