Hello everyone! I know a couple of you have met me such as Cosbyart and a couple others, but I just want to formally introduce myself to everyone on the forum!
My name is Robert. I absolutely love insects, especially praying mantids! I used to catch them all the time when I was younger, and I would keep them as pets, even breed them! When I was 10, I managed to breed my first pair of chinese prayting mantids, and even got the female to lay her egg afterwards! It even got to hatch over winter! But, being the young kid that I was, I had no idea what to do with them and they all died off. This was in the era when it was pretty difficult to find fruit fly cultures online from a reliable source Now, obviously, I know much better, and I know where to get what now and how to go about raising these awesome creatures! I'm hoping to start a collection soon, first by starting off with chinese mantids. Right now, I have a surprise ooth that just hatched that I thought was a dud! So right now I'm kind of testing the waters and see how this pans out. Sometime over the winter, I'm hoping to hatch another ooth full of sinensis mantids and hope to make that my best batch of pets yet!
If you don't find me taking care of my mantids, you'll likely see me out storm chasing. I'm a volunteer storm spotter for the National Weather Service, and I also stream/capture footage for the media.
As you all can tell, weather and insects are my top favorite things that life has to offer! It seems to go hand in hand as well as I know quite a few weather nuts out there who are fascinated by insects.. I guess it's a nature thing!
I'm also a student, I go to northern Kentucky university for communications/web/networking.. I should have gone into studying insects now that I think about it lol.
Anyhow, after browsing around the forum here and there, I have to say, this is quite a fascinating message board and I really thank and appreciate the mods and admins. for having such an awesome site available to people in to the hobby!
