Hi everyone my name is Nick, I'm 23, and as the title suggests I live in AZ. I currently work at CVS as a pharmacy tech but am going to college working towards a degree in Computer Science.

I plan on getting a mantis in the next couple weeks when I have the money for it and this will be the first insect I have ever had as a pet. I am excited and happy that there is a community I can talk to.

I plan on getting one from Bugs in Cyberspace and it looks like currently Wandering Violin, Malaysian Dead Leaf, and Orchid Mantis are available. Are any of these beginner friendly? I already know the Wandering Violin isn't as it is stated on the site, but I'm unsure about the other two. If none of these are beginner friendly I am willing to wait until a more beginner friendly mantis is available. I'm not necessarily in a rush.

Also any tips or anything is appreciated. Thanks in advance for welcoming me to the community!

Welcome Nick! Out of those 3 I'd say the dead leaf is the most newb friendly mantis. I'd say for a orchid you need to know a bit about mantids and know how to care for them. If you want something that is pretty hardy, Mantidkingdom.com(DeShawn) has some spiny and regular flower mantis. Also look on the for sale topic for more mantis other than the websites. If you have any questions let me know and I will answer them to the best of my ability!

Also ghost mantis are very easy, Kermit has some and I believe save changes does too.

Hello Connor,

Thanks for the suggestions! You say if I want something that is pretty "hardy", what do you mean by this? Is there anything that would make the flower mantis easier than dead leaf?

Also, in your other comment you mentioned "save changes" has ghost mantis?l, is that a person?

Hardy meaning tough, something that is hard to kill. Nothing that can really make something easier except experience. And yeah, Kermit and Savechanges are people. Just go to the for sale topic page
