Paradise, CA, that is. I am brand new to the world of mantids, and can't wait to learn more. A few weeks ago I found a praying mantis on my bedroom wall. She was a pure grass green, and beautiful! I put her outside, but when I got home a few hours later, she was sitting on my door knob, so I figured she wanted to make her home with me. I did a little reading, and then made a nice enclosure and got some small crickets. I posted a picture of her somewhere, and was told she was a Chinese mantis. I wasn't so sure, as she was only 2 inches long and pure green. Unfortunately, she only lived five days - I have no idea how long she had been living inside, so maybe that was it. However, my interest in keeping a mantis as a pet did not die! I'm trying to decide now what kind to get.

Thanks for accepting me as a member!

Your in for a treat. Mantises com in many shape and sizes. If you monitor the chatter you will come across helpful information and maybe you may even buy from a good breeder.

Your right, that doesn't sound right on a ID (but I haven't seen any photos). At 2" if it is a adult it is likely a Stagmomantis californica, as the Carolina's seem to stop east of the Colorado Rockies, and to the west is the Californica's.

Either way glad to see you decided to give it another chance, there are many great species to be had. :D
