Hello, I'm 38 a libra and I hate hugs and getting sand in my shoes. I currently run a veterinary hospital, my father was a large animal veterinarian when I was young, and then transitioned into small animals. Now he is retired and I run his 3 doctor small animal hospital. We see mostly dogs and cats but have just hired a veterinarian who also does birds, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, and the occasional rat. I live in Oregon but went to college in PA and stayed there for an additional 10 years. I came backt to Oregon to be near my family, about a year after I came back my family retired and moved to New Mexico. They told me my move home, was unrelated to there sudden interest in a state they had never been to before, but deep down I wonder.
I'm a new Mantis owner I have one thanks to Bugs in Cyberspace. He arrived 5 days after being shipped due to a USPS error. I Repeat this was not a Bugs in Cyberspace Error. In fact Peter was nice about the whole thing. Regardless of the prolong vacation with the Postal Service. My mantis arrived alive and his waving arms let me know he was a bit irritated. After some water and only one fruit fly he seems still annoyed. I'm just letting him be I think he may be molting soon since he just waving his arms at the pray almost trying to push it away from him. Obviously as a new mantis owner I'm just staring at him constantly which I'm sure isn't helping but hes sooooo stinking cute.
I don't know if he is a he but I named him Patrick I could change to Patty if needed. Why a mantis? Well growing up my dad was always on call and my mom was his only employee (we grew up in the country). I didn't see much of either of them. However, we had mantis almost always on our window sill in the kitchen. I remember my mom telling me about them and me having in depth conversations through the window with them, telling them about my day. When my daughter first saw one at the zoo I told her of this story. Since then she has done nothing but research praying mantis (which is hard since there isn't very many books on them). My kindle is full of info, and we also printed off care sheets from the fantastic sites on the internet. I hope we do Patrick proud.
I also have 2 adopted cats Kawaii (a deaf white oddball kitty), Jerry (an orange OCD kitty), Dexter Num Num (a guinea pig), and Cheeky (the acrobatic hamster). A life without a pets is a life I have never known.
