Hi, I am from Greensboro, NC. I have always had a love for most animals, starting with cats, bugs, and reptiles. I am currently living in Knoxville, TN for a summer internship at the Zoo. My cat is great at finding cocoons and last November he found a mantid egg case. It is Chinese Praying Mantis. I did a project on it and got an A+. The mantids hatched May 18. I counted up to 200 young mantids then gave up on counting the rest. Let most go right where egg case was found. Kept 19 to raise. I have 9 now. 1 has shed only once. Two have shed 3 times already.
Everything I read said they shed about 7 times, and once about every 3-4 weeks. Um, mine are shedding much faster then that.
