Hello,

My name is Tang. I first met a praying mantis in a random bush when I was 12 and was fascinated by it. Now an adult and thanks to the internet and my co worker, stumbled upon praying mantis hatching eggs online and then did more research on mantis information, care and forums and here I am! I live near just oustisde NYC so can't really go out and pick ootheca. Anyway, so I just ordered online 2 chinese praying mantis oothecas, Wingless Drosophila Melanogaster Fruit Fly Culture, Flightless Drosophila Hydei Fruit Fly Culture, rice flour beetle culture, and a bunch of 32 oz clear plastic cups with mesh lids. Hopefully, the snowstorm will already passed when the package arrives.

Also, thanks to the enclosure and housing subforum I now have many ideas for enclosures when the mantises grow bigger! Looking forward to receiving my order and see what everyone in this forum are up to :)

Hello Tang and welcome to both the hobby and the forum

Sounds like you have what you need to get started. Just a warning though, a Chinese ooth (Tenodera sinensis) can hatch anywhere from 50 to 300 nymphs each - So be prepared. ;)

When I hatched my T. Sinensis ooth, I was lucky it didn't hatch more than a hundred. My old butterfly enclosure's holes were big enough for some of them to escape. Keep your ooths locked tight.
