hello,

A few days ago my chinese mantid molted (not sure what instar). His back legs and one antennae were bent, but nothing else seemed wrong. A few days later, he had bareley moved and can't hold himself up off the ground, but somehow managed to eat. Now, he still can't hold himself up, and won't eat. I've tried handfeeding, but before he was eating pinhead crickets, and today the only thing i could get at the petstore was waxworms. I tried having him taste the inside of the worm, and he still hasn't eaten. I'm afraid if i try honey i'll just get him stuck to something. Anything i can/should do? His legs seem to be part of the problem, should i amputate? one of the legs is bent backwards, and the other is only a little bent. I can't post pics, sorry :(

Please help!

Sounds like he was on the ground too soon or fell during the molt. It's kind of luck of the draw if he's going to make it. if there is any way you can coax him to the top of the cage so he can hang, then maybe he'll be more comfortable eating. There are several other threads asking if people should amputate, I suggest you sift through them and decide from there.

He molted a few days ago, and i had put him on a branch when i found him on the ground. But today he was dead. :(
