I'm planning to buy a mantis but I have no idea what species I can get

Which species are good for a beginner like me?

Chinese mantids are the most common and inexpensive in the hobby. They grow relatively large and have the distinctive mantis look to them. They can also tolerate varying weather conditions and are not very sensitive. Ghost Mantids are pretty interesting as well and easy to maintain.

Budwings are also extremely tolerant. They're a fairly easy mantis to obtain from another hobbyist or via a website. Good luck, let us know what you choose!

They're all great! Buy the cheapest that you can find from a forum breeder or one of our website members, like MantisPlace or Green Oasis. I do suggest, though, that you get more than one, since if your only mantis dies you lose 100% of yr stock (I did the math on my fingers, so I know that it's right!)
