it was on a bush, it had bright orange neck and green eyes, I live in Ohio and looked nothing like a species I have seen before. One of my friends shot the picture last fall with his cell phone so sorry for the quality.

On an awseome update, I did return to the bush today and on the same bush was a large ooth, Its pretty cold here today so I hope it survived ok during this snowy winter, I have it inside now hoping in a few weeks I will have some nymphs.

Yep, that definately looks like a chinese, very interesting colors but a chinese nevertheless.

 
Male chinese mantis and the colors are perfectly normal. They pretty much all look like that around here. You will have nymphs soon if you found an ooth and brought it indoors.

Its been a great week, 6 of my chinese mantids molted to adult, don't have any with an orange neck though :p

only one with a red underside :D
