well, herbert turned purple and went crazy and ran around his container for a day then buried himself and pupated!

if he emerges successfully it will be the first time i have raised a caterpillar that hasnt been parasitised. unfortunately ive raised quite a few :( :(

 
actually you have to protect the caterpillar from ants...... it is best to place a dish of water below the container you put the pupa in. i had some papillo spp. caterpillars that sucessfully emerged..... but another caterpillar was eaten by ants.

 
Very close to the ones found on tomato plants. They meet a quick death at the jaws of one of my box turtles when I find them.
