Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I'm just about to get into mantids! I've always thought they were neat little creatures, and I want to have a couple of my own. :) Just about to order some from Rebecca, because by the sounds of it she's the best breeder around. I've been doing a lot of research on these guys, so hopefully I'll be ready by the time they come! I'm getting some lineolas and multispinas to start with.

A little about me... I have 2 macaws at home (hence the name "macawlover"), and to be honest I'm a big bird/parrot geek! I also have an african grey at home. They're spoiled rotten, I tell ya! My boyfriend has a caique, and just acquired a baby albino ball python, and we also have 2 bearded dragons. We like the exotic pets, as you can tell!

It'll be nice to get to know everyone here, and I look forward to a fun ride! :D

Although I'm positive I'll have many questions regarding mantid care, here's just one to start with: Can someone explain the different sizes (L1, L2, etc)? I know they're hemimetabolic, but just need clarification on the specific nymph stages. :) Thanks!

Welcome from Michigan!

A newly hatched nymph is L1, when it sheds it becomes L2, and when it sheds again it becomes L3, ect, ect.

Welcome welcome! :D

Jesskb got the L1 down. It's also called instar, so you'll see that around too as an age explanation of nymphs
