Hi I'm new to the hobby of keeping mantids!I only have 1 as of now which is a Ghost mantis!

i see your wanted add for orchids. If i were you i would start with some easier species before you spend alot of cash for orchids. They require alot compared to others. hate to see new people jump in to deep then leave the hobby too soon. But if you do get them good luck with them.

Ok thanks for the tip!

I think that I will instead look for something easier. What could you recommend that is not afraid to hunt their food?

a great beginners species are some creos, or creobroter. they are very pretty and actively hunt there prey.

agreed creos , lineolas, ghost, are all easier of the exotics. i started with ghost and worked my way up after seeing what to expect and alot of research on this forum will help.

I love my little creo! (And just ordered two more from Rebecca, though I guess USPS didn't bother actually knocking on my door when they "tried" to deliver, so now I have to wait 'til tomorrow to pick them up from the Post Office. :p ) Budwings are also aggressive little hunters. And my hierodula nymphs get impatient sometimes and chase down their meal.

Welcome Water !

I've only been doing this a short time too. A year ago I had one Chinese mantis. And I said no more. Now I've raised two more Chinese (Tenodera sinensis) and a beautiful Budwing (Parasphendale affinis). Plus, I've just had three ooths hatch throwing about 700 tiny baby T. sinensis all over the place !

One. Yeah. Sure. You'll see !!
