Hi, I'm new to this site and thought I'd make a post here.  I've had 2 ghosts and 3 Carolina mantises for about 1.5 months now, which are the first bugs I've ever owned.  My male ghost, Sturm, just molted this morning into what I think is L5, and I'm so happy to see them thrive.

I have one question: I've been feeding them melanogaster flies their whole lives.  Is it too big a jump to go suddenly to house flies now?

I did think it was weird that this forum is so locked down to new users.  Can somebody explain why I couldn't even view posts in most sections without having an account, and why I then had to wait to be approved after making the account?  It seems exclusionary to people who are interested in learning about the hobby.

Heyas and welcome. The ghosts should be able to handle house flies at that stage. The question about the forum approval. This is a great forum! I an glad it is somewhat tight to get on. We do not get bothered with a lot of here. I for one hate to see forums full of stuff that does not belong with no one monitoring what is going on.

Welcome! It may be okay to jump to house flies from melanogasters, it really just depends on the mantis, some are more adventurous than others. Definitely give it a try, I switch most of my mantids from hydei directly to blue bottles, and most of them are fine with that transition!

Yesterday, my bank by phone challenged me for authentication, been with them for over 23 yrs. I was very surprised and very pleased at the same time. I also thought they had asked for the info in the wrong order. Today I figured out why they went in that order of questions. The last part would prove if info was mine or stolen.

When the OCD gets roaring I want what I want when I want it!!!! LOL I wanted info on mantis and this (the only real active forum I found that was not vanity or facebookish. And I could not get on for weeks it seemed at the time. Was 2 days or so. Thought I had died and gone to heaven. All this information I had wanted since 10yrs old. LOL and I had forgotten all about them till neighbor brought me one.      So yeah having to wait is a bother. But once you get here, WOW
