I had a mantis get bitten by a large mealworm once and the injury looks very similar. As far as superworms, I'd never feed them out without removing the head. The pinches are large and wicked!

When you feed crickets keep always an eye on your mantis. They can hurt the mantis (crickets are even crickets)

@SynapzeCould your mantis molt after the injuries?

thanks all for responding. i somehow put down giant Rainforest but this is a giant Asian hieroidula membranacea. still alive. hasnt molted yet and hasnt been eating crickets. so ie been feeding him a mix of banana mush and honey and taking close personal care of him. im wondering what his molt will be like and if the injury has delayed him. pi sows him eating banana off his pincer. ive named him don pardo
