Last summer we found a large spider. It was stuck inside a bucket of water and couldn't crawl out. My daughter, who was 9 at the time scooped it up and put it in a plastic container. I googled 'big venomous spiders in Washington state', (of course) and the spider she found looked just like a Hobo spider. The container that we kept the big spider in got left outside accidently :innocent: and unfortunately died in the early morning sun. This summer however, I've found a few spiders that look just like the big one my daughter found last summer only slightly smaller.

I was just curious if anyone else in the U.S. has noticed a new appearance or increase in this species of spiders.

We are fortunate in that the Hobo has not made it this far South. Well... it has not been identified this far South. I do recommend that you buy some mouse glue boards and place them in strategic locations to try to trap the spiders. Then take and post photos!
