We'll hopefully be going to Costa Rica for a fortnight in August so will need a babysitter for my little friends.

What does everyone else on here do with theirs when you go away?

I usually show a friend or family member how to care for them while i'm away. I usually throw them a few bucks for there help.

My mother-in-law will be here babysitting the dogs but won't go near the mantids  I think I'll get my nephews interested and see if they can look after them :)

usually leave them in the care of my friend that has mantids of his own so i know theyre in good hands, though i haven't been on holiday in ages. over the new year my mum looked after them. pretty good job too, though she fed crickets to an idolomantis and it died a couple of days later, but still good for someone not used to it. i once took a p.wahlbergii (L5 i think) nymph on holiday to mallorca with me. fed it on local flies and roaches, it even moulted over there! made it back fine. was fun.

LOL thats awsome ! :p

When I had my first snake, the pet shop I bought it off looked after it for me for only the price of the food it ate. I was pretty friendly with them and helped them out often. Not sure if the same would apply with mantids, depends how good your pet shop is.
