I think it's funny that he was afraid of the mantis, but not the parasite.
He was spraying it with insecticide and pushing it around with a broom handle, but he was handling the parasite with his bare hands.
You can get horse hair worms to emerge from an infected insect by submerging the abdomen of the insect into water once the worm is ready to emerge. If the horse hair worm's gestational period is over, it hijacks the insect to look for water sources where the insect will drown while the worm or worms emerge. The horse hair worms reproduce in water and the eggs must be ingested by a suitable host for the cycle to start again.
