How many instars?

Okay I'm going to ask a total noob question, but this has been bothering me for ages.

How many times does a mantis molt in it's liftime. Becuase I heard about 7 times before and now I'm seeing 8.

I'm really confused and whenever I think one of my mantids are subadults they aren't. (I'm pretty sure one of my texas unicorns is, cause he's got the little bud-wings.)

Can anyone help me out here? I'm so confused. *cry*

Theres not really an answer to this as different species molt a different amount of times

For different mantis, there are different molts. Some have more than others, m a l e s have sometimes more or less than their counterparts, it just depends on the species, Count the ones you have and mark it down, and so on with each species and they you will begin to have an ideal.
