My subadult chinese mantis has had a mismolt, and so has a mis-bent leg, a slight dent in its wing buds, a not-so-great foot pad, and a slight dent in the actual eye, which I only noticed now.

She has recently been showing three of four signs of molting within the last three days, and I am wondering how much of these injuries will become repaired in its final molt.

Sincerely,

Keegan

Yup, keep the humidity up and give her LOTS of gripping surfaces. That should help some. Molts usually heal the "dents" and other imperfections you mentioned, but from my experience it takes about two molts on average to heal things like that. ;) Overall she should be okay though.

I have a Tenodera sp. nymph also, who had a bent and warped tibia:

... The leg was completely straightened in one moult. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at what a mantis can accomplish if it hangs / stretches itself properly before its exoskeleton hardens :) Such recoveries seem to be very common as long as there is adequate space & humidity + a very reliable gripping surface & No Disturbance during / after moulting.

Best of luck

The bent leg should hopefully be completely fixed next molt, but the bent wing bud may cause her to have deformed wings on that side, when she molts to adulthood. I'm not saying this is always the case, but i would say there is a 75% chance! Keep us posted! :)
