I have their basic needs met, roach jelly container in the corner, about 5 fishfood pellets in their container, and pretty of moist coco fiber for them to dig but caresheets online haven't told me anything else really. do they have special requirements like temperature or need a place to hide under aside from the substrate?

I basically provide a place to hide with dead leaves and bark on a moist coco fiber when rearing small colony. (like less than 50)

For more than 100, similar to the cricket breeding method, use lots of egg crate place to hide.

thank you, for the small colony could I maybe cut up an egg carton instead of using bark/leaves? im just worried about mites

In my opinion, there is no way to get rid the mites.

if your colonies is maintained with high humidity and lots of food source.

Ticks are occur unconditionally.

So, my recommendation is to keep the colonies dry, and use the water sources.

like a Fluker's Cricket Quencher or Orange Cube.

these are really good water sources for roaches and crickets.

And also, they just need a place to hide.

So, it is okay to put an egg carton on the bedding.

But as you know, the egg carton gets worse when the humidity is high.

Mold grows..

The more wet food provided the more mites will come. The set up above looks good, but check the leaf litter and

see if it stays damp, also place the cages on mite paper with will really help keep the population down. Each day

you will see the dead mites pile up on the paper.
