My beloved orchid, Beauty, passed on today. And I don't know why. It seemed like she was taking forever to molt for the last time. But I was told that was normal. So I did not stress.....much.
I found her in the bottom of her cage earlier this afternoon. I attempted to give her honey and I swear, she shook her head no, back and forth. I didn't realize what she was doing. Or should I say I didn't think she was "communicating" in that way. Not until she stopped shaking her head when I quit offering it. It was as though she was telling me no, it was time to go.
I don't know what happened. I think she was attempting her final molt and something went terribly wrong???
My heart hurts....literally. These pictures were after she passed. I talked to her and spent nearly an hour with her and I had to leave. I tried to get her to hold onto the top, but she could not. I sat her in her flower in her typical pose...the one I will miss so much. And when I returned hone, she has passed right there. She is even more beautiful in death.
I now have 3 adult males...and no Beauty to mate with.
