hi there i have just recieved an ooth but can find no info on this species, can any1 shed a little light plz

Tenodera angustipenni - narrow winged mantis

I think you just keep them the same as Tenodera Aridifolia Sinensis (Chinese mantis). I think they're pretty much the same but smaller.

Matt

As Matthew said, they are very much like the Chinese mantid. They are a bit smaller. Coloration range is identical as well.

They do really well with minimal mortality if started on spring tails. They are a timid feeder at L1. You should still have plenty survive to L2 if you only use fruit flies however. Which brings up another point. The average ooth is able to produce 200+ nymphs! So have lots of room available!

From L1 through adult love and require high humidity. So you will need to mist daily and use a moisture holding substrate in the containers. Also, the species is canabalistic in the extreme!

thanx for the advise i feel better now i know a little about the species :) should be fun as i have 4 ooths ready to hatch soon i hope all being well.

2 x chinese mantis

1x narrow armed mantis

1x european mantis

all ebing well i may well have a devils mantis ooths soon too :) :)

LOL your screwed haha be expecting maybe 800 little mantids, are these your first and do you mean Idolomantis by Devils mantis?

Matt

I hope u don't have Idolomantids on the way. You will have alot of mantids. You might have to let some go (that's what I do), or sell some. I say no Idolomantids, because I've heard that they are very difficult to keep and breed. No offense, but you should gain some experience first. (I'm too scared to try  )

i have an L4 griffin mantis but these will be my first from hatch.i have everything ready for them, fruit fly cultures & plenty of homes,i bought 3 sets of shelves to hlp accomodate them all lol. yeh its gona be fun that for sure. the devils mantis im hoping to get is the Devils Flower Mantids (Blepharopsis mendica) as they are supposed to be easier to look after with no real issue from what i have read. i would like the idolmantis but understand they are somewhat harder to look after.eventuually i would like both & orchid mantis but not until i am confident i can look after them properly. but i have to say since joining this forum ive learnt alot and you guys are very helpful :) :)

Oh thats ok then you seem very well perpaire, some people jjust buy themforthe sake of it. B. Mendica are great just spray evry3 days and keep about 25-29*C.

I thought you weren't supposed to spray them... Yen says you shouldn't spray them, since his died when he did. I don't, and they are fine.
