Okay, now I know alot of you believe that you should wait about a week after a mantids final molt, before introducing a potential breeding pair. But I was bored, and wanted to see the males reaction. Here's the story:
One of my male Iris oratorias molted to adult on the 11th of this month. On the 13th and f14th two females molted to adult. I put the female that molted on the 13th into the males enclosure on the 15th, and he mated with her without any struggle from the female. Obviosly under a week. I then attempted to mate the other female (from the 14th) with him the next day (16th). No go, I guess he was recharging . Then, on the 17th, he mated with her without a hitch. Again, within a week.
So my questions are:
1)Will the females be ok since they mated early, or will I need to mate them again now that there over a week as adults?
2)Is the 1 week period a precaution most breeders take, or does it vary from species to species?
3)I have one other female whom I want the male to mate with, but she's subadult. She's been subadult for three weeks, one week longer than the oher three adults, which they allways have molted within 24 hours of each other(another mystery <_< ).She's stopped eating, and her wingbuds are overlapping, but does anyone have any idea if my male will survive long enough until she's ready to mate?
Thanks for any responses.
P.S. I'm not trying to contradict anyone's breeding strategy i.e. "the one week rule".
