Went to the beach yesterday. Stopped by WalMart first to get sunblock and my credit card was no good. Called Visa. They wanted to know what I was doing in Philly spending $2,400 at Lowes when I live in Fla. I told them no idea, I haven't been there for weeks. They are taking off the charges and are sending me a different card. We (Visa and myself) suspect somebody had set up a scanner at my gas station as that was the last time I used my card 4 days ago. This has been going on in my area for some time so I have been extra vigilant. I am very aware of my surroundings and always cover my hand when I need to enter a PIN # or something. I always take care to look for tampering on anything I slide my card though and I noticed nothing. I still got hit.

Be careful. Use a real credit card, not something connected to your bank account. I use my credit card and my credit card only for 95% of purchases just in case something like this happens. Visa lost their money, not mine. Had I used my debit card, I would be out an entire paycheck right now. Yes, I would have gotten it back but you don't get it back right away. You have to fight for it and it can take a few weeks. Since it was not my money that disappeared, I can still buy food, gas, and pay my mortgage. If I used a debit card with a Visa logo, I would not be able to say that right now.

I used to deal with a lot of credit fraud in a former job as part of my duties. Are you getting law enforcement involved? I don't think the average person has any idea how common this is.

I will if I have to. They are sending an affidavit to sign and they may request I file a report. I work in law and see it all the time.

Well obviously if they get involved they will visit the place the card was used to obtain video, receipts, etc.

Strange thing was I bought $40 in gas but the gas station only charged me $1.00.... I told them today but they didnt care.
