My last female subadult idolo just molted sucessfully to adult this morning. Shes a litle smaller then my last one but she's still beautiful. I sent my other girl off to someone who has a male because my male died and am going to do the same with this one. Its important to me that we get these beauties bred in captivity as much as possible. I hate the fact that we take so many of these from the wild. One day I'll actually keep one of my adults but right now I'm willing to let them go and in so doing maybe I can be part of them successfully breeding here so that more of us can enjoy these beautiful creatures that God made.

I agree with CB Idolos rather than WC. Hope that person breeds them. I still have nymphs from my adults.

I'll try my best! I'm going to bump up the heat and keep the humidity up for the male to get very active. He is almost fully coloured up and eating lots now! And the fact that this female is smaller she will be less intimidating to him so he does not feel scared to he with her haha.

I know you will. I trust you. Will miss her cause she has been my tiny baby from the start. But I also know the importance of getting these guys and gals capive bred. They say to wait three weeks after she's become adult to mate her. He'll be a month by then. So hopefully we have nymphs :-D That would be great. But be careful with him because the more active he becomes the more spastic he'll be. I lost my boy due to that fact...Make sure he can't get stuck anywhere because he will try and claw his way out. Or at least thats how my boy was after about two weeks as adult.

And Karries boy has been the same. Going all nuts so just be prepared :-D

Good luck with breeding the idolos! I completely agree with the importance of establishing a captive stock vs. relying on WC ooths.

My first ever idolo girl shed to adult last week. Her sisters should shed sometime soon. I have two sub males that have been "stuck" at that instar for a long time, and their wing buds are still not swelling. Not sure if there's anything I can do to speed them up - I have them under a heat lamp, fed with lots of flies, just like the females. (I know, normally the challenge with breeding idolos is slowing down males and speeding up females, but for some reason, I have the opposite issue.)

She was the girl that took the longest of all my girls. Is that a joker mantis that you have as your pic? I am trying to get mine to breed but the males are having no part of it!

Yeah, seems like idolos love to stay at the subadult stage for a long time. I read it happens with females, but I didn't expect my males are doing the same thing. :(

And yes, it's a joker mantis in my pic. He turned sub last week and my females are still presub and sub. Good luck with breeding! I don't know - these seem to be pretty tricky to raise, and I guess, tricky to breed too? It's my first time raising these guys, still learning as I go.

if you are successful in breeding please let me know. I am having no luck whatsoever with these little jokers! And from what I hear the female loves to eat the males! My boys run from her...I've tried keeping them next to each other..that didn't work..I put her in another room for two weeks ...that didn't work. The males go all spazzy and fly away or just plain run from her...All she has to do is turn and look at them and they're like, " Oh heck no!" I love the color of their eyes in contrast to their colors. They are amazing mantis..

I was going to say put them outside in a sunny/shade area when introducing them but you live in CT.
