And what is this one? Found in Southern California:

Not sure about the second one, but the first one is not Thesprotia Graminis, my guess is Oligonicella scudderi, which has a smaller hind portion/front portion (of pronotum) ratio as compared to the Texas grass mantis (Thesprotia Graminis). It was spotted few times in the southern part of Texas according to Joshua who is the Program specialist in Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, i have never seen any here in Houston. Oligonicella mexicana is another posibility. That's a male by the way.

How about this one? Found in Northern CA and just want to make sure if she's stagmomantis californica or not.

Knew he was male. Thanks for the help. ANyone know about the second? Kinda looks like Iris Oratoria.

what happened to its forelimbs in the second picture? Or is it just folded back?

Second is I. oratoria. Third is either californica or limbata. They're basically the same thing.

The second picture is too blurry to tell if its I. oratoria for sure. Did you check to see if it has a red orange spot on the underside of its abdomen? From the picture I can barely make out that the wings don’t run the entire length of the abdomen, is this right? If so, it’s obviously a female.

Check for the spot… Or try to piss it off and make it show you its wings. If they have dark violet eyespots with a dull brick red stripe along the margin of the hind wing, then it’s I. oratoria.

Or you could always post a better picture... :)

Well, there's nothing else here in california that looks like oratoria...yersiniops maybe, but thats a long shot.

I do not have these mantids nor did I find them. Somebody on another board posted them. There is nothing wrong with the green ones front legs. She is just holding them like that.
