Hi!

So I had a Chinese mantis ooth hatch yesterday and there where lots of babies. I usually hatch chinese ooths and release some in my garden, but this batch hatched way too early and I can't release any because of the harsh weather conditions this time of year. And chinese oots hold lots of eggs! I've been giving them away to friends and neighbors, but can't seem to get rid of them. I kept 10. I'm not shipping them because shipping is a hassle and they are first in* so they are not quite ready to ship anyway.

This species is capable of diapause. Next time keep the ooths refrigerated and bring them out in the spring.

Yep had three hatch on me before I got the other four into diapause. It's all I've done beside work since 11/3/2012- feed, clean, feed , clean lol

I've only homed two of them to a trusted friend.

I wouldn't trade them for the world and the knowledge I've gained from raising them :)

I've gotten some incredible colors that I can't wait to work with!

One of Tiffany's (four) ooths released two nymphs today. Yup. 2. I was absolutely not expecting this. The ooths are smaller than standard T. sinensis ooths. And, although I did successfully mate Tiffany a number of months ago, I just, for reasons unknown, thought these ooths were infertile. Dont know why only 2 hatchlings emerged. It's possibly due to the very dry conditions in the room. Bone dry. The two youngsters are named Surprise and Trouble. Really shouldn't have done that cause I'm not sure I can keep them.

There is a good chance an entire swarm could still drop out over the next few days/week. Sometimes a few nymphs will trickle out before the main hatch kicks off.
