Very special! How long did it take? My Chinese female laid hers about a month ago and a second pretty recently and I'm wondering how long until we need to take care of hundreds of babies :)

Congrats on your very first hatching :)

Too bad you missed seeing it, I always miss it too because they tend to hatch early in the morning.

Arent all those little babie mantids cool!!??

Dont forget, wait 2 days before feeding them, and you can start with melano ff's for their first meal.

You will have a great time watching them interact and grow :)

Know, I bet you want another ooth ;)

You should try to find a sphodromantis (viridis, lineola, blue flash, etc.) because they are so hearty

a species and so easy to care for.

They live longer, and are more interesting then the Chinese.

Yours might hatch in the next two weeks. I think they take about 6 weeks from when they were laid if they are kept warm.Check early in the morning, I caught mine in the act at around 9am.

Hierodula unimaculata Ooths Incubating... 4 weeks counting down..... 1mth is good it'll give me some time to take care of the Chinese to L4-L5 in a Month  then start the Cycle again ... lol I have 11 FF's culture waiting to feed them crazy lol, BTW I tested 1 container I put like 30 FF's In with 10 babies Mantis but they are not eating ..... why ?? Do they really need to wait 2 days before feeding ??

Oxyopsis gracilis Ooths still waiting shipment should arrive with in a weeks time. :(

yeppers, watch the ooth from 8:30 to 10:30 is usually when mine hatch, and watta ya mean chinese is not special to hatc, even old timers like Phil lol sorry me love it when they hatch, never get tired or unexcited about it. Chinese take 6 wks to hatch if just laid, so count the weeks and u should be within a day or two to seeing it happen.

Any Chance More will hatch ?? Only around 100 came out today ... I'm still putting the Ootheca in a 32oz container hoping more will come .

You have my envy and my congrats! Though I have enjoyed several different species for months, I have yet to experience L1s. I'll remedy that at some point but until then, I'll try not to pout too much. ;)

And 100 sounds like a lot of nymphs to me! I know t. sinensis ooths can hatch far more, just sayin' that anything approaching a hundred bouncing, cannibalistic little nymphs is still a lot of critters to work with.

Ya i know .. I keep like 50 in a large i would place and the reset 5 diffenece place 5-10 each so .. should me oka... plus i have 11 FF's culture going for them soon as they are ready to eat ... plenty of food .

My sinensis female laid yet ANOTHER ooth (her third in the 6 weeks she's been inside) this morning and I think nearly killed herself in the process... but she drank a ton of water and is now moving around a bit and I think she may (amazingly) pull through yet again. She is a very dedicated layer. Oh my god am I going to have the babies if all of these hatch out... and there are 5 more in the garden that I am aware of.
