Hi,
Our Chinese mantid, MeiMei has some foam type stuff coming out of her butt. We have had her since she hatched in late April. She stays in an aquarium outside on our patio. She has always been a little piggy and usually looks like she is about to pop.
Today after giving her some more crickets (the flies are waiting to hatch), I put her in the sun and she started wiggling her but on the mesh on the side of her cage. Then foam started coming out, so far about a half dollar size and thick but foamy.
Could she be laying an egg casing?
She has been in her 10 gallon aquarium all by herself since before she molted her wings. There is mesh at the top of her aquarium. Could she be sick? Or trying to lay an egg casing even if she has not been mated? Getting ready to die?
I have worried a little lately as it is warm here during the day in Southern California but at night it gets cold.
I will try and have my husband posts some pics tonight.
