Hi everyone,

The house I'm staying at for the summer had some three-lined cockroaches (luridiblatta trivittata) inside the home but the majority of them are outside (you literally move some leaves and plants and see them scattering) so I'm assuming that they're wandering in the house. Little information is known about them on the web, but apparently they're from the Mediterranean area and it's unknown if they're really pests are not. Anyway, I tried explaining this to the family member I'm staying with (I'm not at the house right now thank God), but she went ahead and got the whole house sprayed, outside...and inside.

My question is, I plan on returning back to the sprayed house in a couple of days. Will that harm my mantids?

Yep. Well pretty sure. I would hide them all in a forest for a few days but you do not have much time to go back and forth to check on the mantids right?

Well, I'm not at the house yet so the mantids haven't been exposed. But when I get there, the mantids will be inside in my room (or at least that's what I planned). There's no real place to put them outside without risking them dying due to the blazing sun (magnified because they're in glass jars). Should I try leaving them in the car when I go back?

This is so frustrating, I hate it when people don't listen or just do stuff without taking into account other people. I'll be going back in about a week, which means the stuff will still be lethal to my mantids. The only place I could leave them is the car, but has anyone done that?

Oh, you live in a city right?

If your car is in the hot sun (if there is hot sun) then then would melt but if they are in the shade then it is alright.

Thats a bummer! Maybe set up a tent type thing outside that would give them good ventilation but block the sun and rain, if it kills roaches it will kill almost any insect I would think. Bring in one or two mantis if you dare and see what happens to them over a week or so?

angelofdeathzzz, I thought about bringing in a sacrificial lamb. But I'm not gonna take the chances. Luckily I have another relative close by that house who will allow me to put my bugs in there and allow me to come check up on them. (sigh) mini crises averted. I'd rather have them in the same house as me but at least they'll be alive. Thanks for the fast replies people.
