This is an instar four mantis I believe, double shield.

Looks like a male from what I can tell. ;) The last segments are very small like all males, and by the segment count it is a male too. View the guide on how to identify male or female mantids here.

 
Crud dang it. Now I have to find someone with a female. And I counted segments on large nymphs, but the small nymphs when I'm sexing them confuses me.

Personally as it is still so young I would wait to ensure of their sexes, as I've had some that appeared to be one sex but once it molted a bit and the segments were more defined it was obviously the other. But with the full size photo, I labelled the segments and at seven segments it seems to be little doubt it is male.
