Ok I bought 5 chinese mantis ooths and decided to have them hatch outside on the side of my garage where there is plenty of vegetation and to keep birds and other vermin from taking them and so I placed the ooths on the back inside of a plastic shoe box placed in a tomato cage but carefully glued them to some wood and glued the wood to the inside of the shoe box and would this be too much protection and hoping that this setup will keep them safe long enough to hatch and the shoe box lid has been removed and there is also two slots on the bottom where air can go in and out and hoping this will not fry the ooths.I put all this in a partially shady area on the side of my garage and put the ooths above some plants so if the nymphs start to hatch they will land directly on the plants and can spread out and just wanted to be sure that I am not being too over protective as my first concern and the second concern is that they will hatch with this setup and just making sure that no birds or squirrels and other animals can get at the ooths while they are outside waiting to hatch!

I would just put them out there. Chances are small that something will mess with them.

If your so paranoid whay don't you just hatch the ooths inside? You can then place the nymphs where ever you wish.

not paranoid its that I am kind of out of containers and stuff to hatch 5 chinese ooths and have not had luck hatching anything lately even though I am keeping my room in the seventies and spring is here as well and giving a shot at 4 ooths right now and one of them being my shields ooth and going to try my hand at these first and if these succeed then maybe I will have my luck back!

I don't know what types of predators are around your location, but where I am, I'm more concerned about jumping spiders and ants.
