Before I got my mantids I bought a tarantula. She and I got along very well, she would sit on my hand and let me pet her. She is a B smithi.

After I bought some mantids astarted playing with them,my T would flick hair at me and be quite antisocial.I find playing with my mantids easier.

Has anyone seen this in other pets?

Oh, my dog gets jealous all the time when I pet other dogs, but sometimes is I'm holding one of my mantids, she'll jump on me like crazy like she can't figure out why I'm not petting her :) That's amazing that the tarantula would get jealous though. Sometimes my mantids get jealous when I'm holding other mantids and they start pawing at the container trying to get out :)

Your tarantula... flicks hair at you?

Yes,she is a Mexican red knee. Ts from the Americas rely on irritating hairs for defence instead of venom. They are sweeter than African or Asian Ts that have much stronger venom.

You sure you just haven't been handling her less so she has gotten a touch more skittish about being touched? It can be rather risky to handle tarantulas to begin with. They break so easy.

My three girl mantises want to eat one another... does that count as jealousy?

Edit- Lol as I type this, both of my two caged girls are in a stare down looking at Pawn who is currently the one I have out on my desk. She doesn't see them, but they both have their faces pressed against the clear side of the cages staring at her. :shifty:

I did not know that Ts could do that. I know I have a bug in my bedroom but spiders, especially giant hairy ones, still give me the oogies.

Yeah I caught a whiff of jealousy from my wife about my pets one night. I came home from work with a few wild caught moths and such and started to feed my mantis and clean the cage. Well I guess she wanted me to start helping with our dinner and asked for a hand. I said I would be a few minutes and that Zorak was hungry.

She responded with "Well, Emma is hungry too you know."

Turns our she wasn't hungry for moths and daddy long legs though. :D
