this thread is for all those plane people out there (pun intended).

my favorite plane is JAS-39 gripen. whats everyone elses favorite plane or helicopter?

Favorite planes are the F-22, F/A-18, and the F-15. Favorite helicopter would be the AH-64 Apache or Mi-24 Hind. My favorite cargo plane is the C-17 Globemaster III.

i like the f-22 aswell. for helis i like the ah-1z supercobra.

Yup the Cobra is really nice. There's actually one at the ANG Base in Lincoln, NE. It was on display at the Lincoln Air Show this year. Kinda funny the ANGB and the Lincoln airport actually share a runway. They have mostly small commercial jets at the Lincoln airport and KC-135 Stratotankers at the ANGB.

I'm partial to the plane of Concordant Opposition.

Although, the Astral Plane is fun too.

awesome! i would love to see a cobra in person.

It's really cool. The Cobra is so thin it's actually the exact same width as the top rotor blades! I might have a pic of it on the computer. I'll try and post it in a bit. ;)

Oh... you mean one of those new fangled aeroplane machines?

In that case, I prefer my trusty lenticular aerodyne using Viktor Schauberger's implosion technology powering superconductive electromagnets which apply inductive force generated within copper against Earth's magnetic field.

Very similar in principle to this demonstration of Lenz's Law (aka Faraday's law of induction):

Tough contest... but I absolutely adore Guppies. Something about them just screams dieselpunk:

Among a whole lot of others, I also like Howard Hughe's Spruce Goose (what ambition!) and the Saunders-Roe 'Princess':

But (in my opinion) no plane / chopper that has ever flown can hold a candle to the dirigibles of elder days:

Aircraft. Please keep it on topic.

I'm an aircraft buff too but naming a favorite is difficult. I'm a big fan of the A10 Warthog. They flew in support of us in Afghanistan. The noise that big nose gun makes is incredible. I also like the C17 on the cargo side. When we started jumping those it was like a mercedes compared to the C130's and C141's.

+1 I love the sheer size of the inside. Just enough space to do a little drill. :p I also like how new it is, the versatility, STOL, the maneuverability, and the speed.

I prefer the miniature variety:
I like RC too. I just got a Syma S107G RC Helicopter and I love it. It has a digital gyro inside and counter rotating blades so it's very stable. It can actually go forward, backward, and turn left and right. Not to mention the all metal frame. Vey nice helicopter for the average $50ish price.

the C-17 is a verrrrrrrt smooth plane, and not a bad looker. i have been doing rc for a year now and its is great. i have built an F-22 an X-31 and an OV-10t. if you are looking in into getting into rc check out rcpowers.com. make sure to watch there youtube vids.

Here's my favorite, it's basicly a flying gun with a cool name, but I may be bias:

The ‘Angel of Death’ is operated by a total of 12 crew members. There are five officers – the pilot, co-pilot, navigator, fire control officer and electronic warfare officer. They are aided by seven enlisted staff – a flight engineer, TV operator, infra-red detection set operator, loadmaster and three aerial gunners. Their specially converted aircraft can stay in the skies for 12 hours at a time and is the largest airborne gun in the world.

The crew can carry several thousand 105mm Howitzer rounds, which weigh 40lb each. The Howitzer provides pinpoint accuracy and has top-secret sensors to protect it from missiles.

On operational flights, the plane is loaded with ten tons of ammunition.
