The weirdness happened today. Last night I let my mantid hang out on the window frame overnight as I have done numerous times before this with others. I look for nim today and he is gone. Looking around I find him lying on his belly but very very weak. :( :( I pick him up and check him out under my trusty camera lens to find that his entire face is totally discoloured as well as his lower thorax.Upon closer examination I noticed he is quite close to his next molt. So, I'm wondering if he went into molt position lost his footing and fell. But, I guess it's hard to tell, the discolouration looked as if he were already dead and his flesh was beginning to rot or something. It is just he weirdness of it all. Also, I recently added small mealworms to his diet for the first time and was wondering if it's possible there was something wrong with the worm. But, I fed him the worm like two days or so ago so if he were reacting to a bad food source would it not have shown up earlier? Anyway, I just put him in the fridge. He was only L-3. I guess you just never know how things are going to turn out, huh? :(

i guees u wont be letting them out to rome free any more  like u said sounds like it was about to shed. When did it last eat?

L3, what species? Chinese?

Chinese can curl up and die seemingly at any moment (in their younger days) from my experience. Sorry for your loss.

If he was sick from food, he probably would've thrown up or expelled it from his system first.
