So, I started out with 4 Stagmomantis carolina nymphs, L1, from a friend's wild caught female (she laid 4 ooths, only 3 were fertile I think.) They are now about 4-5 days old, and 2 have died. The survivers (Spencer and Bob) are feeding very well on FFs, and are housed individually in 32oz deli cups at approx. 74*F with daily misting.
My questions are a) what kind of die off is normal for Carolina nymphs, B) how long should it take them to molt to L2?, and c) is there anything else I should be doing for these guys? They're my first mantids, and I think I'm doing ok so far!
A really bad shot of one of their cups:
32oz deli cup, paper towel on the bottom to retain humidity, covering the air holes in the lid to prevent escapes, and on the side to climb on/molt from, with a nice comfy stick to hang out on.
Bob says "Hi!" I'm really amazed at how calm these little critters are. They just chill on my hand like, "Being held by a giant mammal? No problem!"
