Thing is they were knawing on the candles, could the scent bring them in? My son lives in the country and he has had an explosion of mice and rats this last month. Caught 21 of them, mostly rats. (lets not get into killing, they drop poo and tear up books and cloth and the damage they do has to be stopped) and he is wondering as am I if the candle scents bring them in?
