If you love planes and live in or near Lincoln, Nebraska, you might want to check this out:

Lincoln Air Show

I sure as heck want to go!

Admission's free and it's at the Lincoln airport.

Here's the link to the Offutt AFB air show website:

Offutt Air Show

This is also a free event and it's at the Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha.

Me and my family go to the Offutt show every year, but the Lincoln show looks way better.

Okay at LEAST comment if you like planes. And read the list of performers on the Lincoln show website. Click on Info & Attractions toward the top of the page, then Performers on the left. There's also a list of static displays (Planes on Display). The lists on the Offutt website are at the top of the page.

I love planes, have a couple of plane-mad-photographer friends which keep me loaded almost daily with new shots  pity I'm so far far far away.

I always love an air show...

i have to dig for the shot...but I have one of 'Fat Albert' taking off...vapor trails coming off all 4 props.

Looks like a decent show for sure. Nice mix of modern and vintage. Big fan of the A10 myself. They supported us a lot when I was deployed in 02. Nothing better than seeing a couple Warthogs coming to assist with that big gun in the nose. Sounds like a giant fart when they fire it.

Yeah, they're really awesome. When I was doing flight marshaling and security for the air show in Tarkio, Missouri, there was an A-10 performing, and I got some video of the low pass. If you pause it at just the right time, you can actually see the pilot. BTW which branch did you join?

I love Fat Albert (The Plane). Have you seen the experimental STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) C-130s they made during the Iranian Hostage Crisis? The put retractable rockets on the front and back of them, and they could land and stop so quickly that they planned to land them in a soccer stadium in Iran before they raided. But one of them crashed during a test when one of the rockets malfunctioned and one of the wings was broken right off. So they cancelled the whole STOL C-130 thing and flew George H. W. Bush over there in the two-seater SR-71 to negotiate. And there's a rumor that Iran having F-14s is a result of those negotiations. There's a cool video of the STOL C-130s on YouTube.

I was Army.

I was Army.
Cool. I know a guy who's an Air Force officer and he does recon and electronics on an RC-135 based at Offutt AFB here in Omaha. His parents were Army, and his mom recently retired as a Brig. Gen. in April. My dad was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force. He worked in the metal shops as a welder, and he said more than once he's had a piece of molten metal burn into his skin. My grampa was in the USAF in the '60s and he also flew in RC-135s. And not just any RC-135, but the Cobra Ball model, which was like super secret in the 1960s. He said one time he got a call at like 2:00 in the morning that the Russians had a new, unidentified radar and he needed to get to the flight line quick so they could fly over Russia and record the radar signal for analysis. It was like a secret mission, so he couldn't turn on any lights on his truck, all the runway lights were off, and even the plane lights were off. He said when they took off, there was also an SR-71 flying with them. When they got near Russia, they stayed over the clouds and high enough not to be heard. Eventually, they got some of the signal, but they had to descend a lot to get it. So as soon as the Russians knew what happened, they started shutting off their electronics and radar, but the RC-135 already had the recording. So the SR-71 just went VERTICAL into the clouds before the Russians could launch the anti-aircraft missiles, and everyone made it back to the base safely with the radar recording. Thought you might like to hear a cool story. ;)

At my age it was the new thing in Korea to see the F4D Phantoms being replaced by the new and quicker F-5s. While I was in ROK in '68 during the Pueblo crisis and later, to see a formation of the F-5s fly by overhead screaming as it were was truly something to make one very proud to be an American.

Yeah, F-5s are really cool. Last night I was at a party at my dad's office, and we saw four F-15s fly by. They were kind of in formation, but not any specific one. Just a rectangular shape. But they were still really cool!
