Lump on Eye

I've been told it is a form of bruising? as far as I know,only had really old adults get it though

I've seen a wild female with the entire eye exploded and black stuff all over her face. BAD bruising. :lol:

I know that mantids get black eyes from rubbing, but this is a visible protrusion. Is that the same thing?

I think so,as long as one eye is fine shouldn't be too bad off though

Maybe it is a molting injury. I have had a mantis whose eye was bleeding after a molt. The blood dries black.

Try wetting a cotton swab and gently wiping the area. Maybe the mantis is just dirty but if it looks green on the swab after wiping, it is probably blood.

My mantis that had the bloody eye lived a normal life, so don't worry too much about it.

It can also happen by rubbing it's face on the cage

Well, I didn't have to wipe it off because she wiped it off on her own. There's still a little scar, but not nearly as bad. Must have been a molting injury. Thanks for the help everyone!
