Lump on Eye

Thanks for the info, you two. Ooh, an exploded eye... That's not fun!

I know that mantids get black eyes from rubbing, but this is a visible protrusion. Is that the same thing? :)

 
Maybe it is a molting injury. I have had a mantis whose eye was bleeding after a molt. The blood dries black.

Try wetting a cotton swab and gently wiping the area. Maybe the mantis is just dirty but if it looks green on the swab after wiping, it is probably blood.

My mantis that had the bloody eye lived a normal life, so don't worry too much about it.

Well, I didn't have to wipe it off because she wiped it off on her own. There's still a little scar, but not nearly as bad. Must have been a molting injury. :) Thanks for the help everyone!
