Hello,

I'm having major trouble with breeding these pesky buggers. The male is an ***** and tries to attack the female who is 2x larger!?! Anyway, is there anyway i can prevent this? It's annoying and i really do not want to risk either getting hurt. I keep 8 inches away from each other, and the male always sees the female. He approaches then attacks. Perhaps he is trying to latch on but it doesn't seem so. Any advice is thanked!

try to feed him or juet let him approach the female and mine did the same thing but it looked like it was a violent act but then mine mated so I would just let them try to mate and the female wont take anything from the male so just let the male try to mate and observe them closely and like I said this happened to me a few times since I have 2 females and had similar instances but in the end it paid off and just now waiting on the females to lay their ooths after they are fattened up on food of course!

Alright, I'm gonna try that tonight, I'm going to feed the male as much as possible, then put the female and the male in the bathroom over night, hopefully they get jiggy :p

well I did not use the bathroom and in this event if you have a net cube cage that would work even better with nothing in it but the male and female and thats all I needed

ok, well, if i used an enclosure in the bathroom, would that be better, its like 7x8x9

I think the male thinks the female is a threat, I know for a fact that a male only mates with a female if he can smell her pheromones, and before mating, feed them bith well.

I doubt he is attacking. Sounds like breeding behavior to me. Males often jump on and get a litte crazy. http://mantidforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7112
I read the mating thread, do you think if i give her a cricket before he jumps on she'd be more calm? it seems to me as if the male tries to latch on to the female then the female gets into a bundle of wing threat thingy.

actually my europeans did have a little violent spat before they actually mated but the male went through with the mating and the female as well and I think it is a normal thing that just let them at it and since the female is bigger then the male then maybe the male will think twice about putting up a fight!

Just let him be with the female and just watch them until they link and then let them have their privacy

Arghh, no success yet, the female is actually a very nice gal and she won't even hurt the male... I'm leaving em both on my plant and hopefully when i get back from the movies I'll see em connected...or a head on the ground...
