Hey, all!

I see there are a number of you Macro "Junkies" - wonder if you've got some advice for me. I'm way ameteur, but have a nice Canon 5d Mark II. Any advice for a macro lens...? My "babies" aren't getting the justice they deserve...

Well, if you spent over $3,000 on your camera, I guess that you won't gasp at $800+ for the Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 macro lens, the better of their two 100mm offerings. It will give you a moderately fast medium telephoto with 1:1 macro capability from a manageable distance. Con't forget, though, we'll be mentally comparing your results with those of Yeatzee and his reversed, taped on lens!

Thanks. No competitive vibe for me. Just "Photos of the kids" as it were.

My camera takes really great video, so I'd love to mix that with the macro lens and a makeshift studio. I'm sure, like everything else in BOTH these hobbies, it'll be incredibly technical, obsessive, frustrating and really rewarding. One hopes....

What a camera to start with! Congratz!

I suggest the longest macro lens you can afford. Im not familiar with canon lenses to much, but im assuming they have a 200mm macro right? If so, that would be the one to get. More mm = more working distance. Sigma has the wonderful 180mm macro in canon mount also :)

:D Hey, I've got .99 cent metal adapters from china now! No more tape for me, I've moved up in the world

still using 30+ year old lenses though ;)

Thanks. Yeah, it's a great camera. I'm not loyal to the brand or anything, but it's been great. Especially in low light situations. I can get pretty decent pictures even with my basic lens. So, hope are high...
