Hey guys:

Iam breeding my maj pair right now. I left them alone for about an hour but they've been at it for about three. He is on her back but not connected and they both look exhausted haha. I can't get him to let of her. Should I just let them be and risk her going Jodia Arias on him or should I seperate? How do you know if they actually made a connection?

This is how they were when I came home after about an hour.

This was the closest looking thing to a connection I witnessed

I think what the bottom picture is, is them connected....so I think ur good...but she looks full enough to leave them overnight...but offer her all she'll take before u leave them...and water...give them water through a pipette or somethin....

Not very long. Hour maybe. But when I came back he was like he was in pic one and kept slipping off and well I seperated them to be safe. Try again tomorrow. But he had a death grip on her and she just ran off with him other back and scuttled up the wall! Lol was like an episode of Strange Sex.

Can't you tell if they connected or not by whether or not there is a spermataphore (spelling?)? Again, asking a stupid question so that I can try and learn something here. :smarty:

Yes although I've heard of some females cleaning up quickly. It's my first go so learning as well. If they mate all night I have no idea what went on.

They connected. An hour is probably enough time but if that is all they were connected for I would remate them. Her being fat/well fed is far from a guarantee he is safe by the way. If you didn't witness an actual mating but the females genitals are "open" you can be sure they mated. A spermatophore is often visible in that situation too but not always.

+1

After mating,H.majuscula females will groom and take the spermatophore out of their abdomen by eating it.If you witness this behavior, chances are that your female is now gravid.

Good luck!
